A Vibrant, Hostile World!

The world of Requiem is a high technology, low magic world. The Gen (humanoid) life on Requiem is not native, but instead is the result of colonisation several centuries earlier. The colonists were cut off from their homeworld seventy years after the colony was founded. The homeworld destroyed itself in a nuclear holocaust. Since then, the Gens have struggled to make Requiem their adoptive home. It has not been easy, however. The gravity is higher and the sunlight is stronger than their birth world. The ecology of Requiem is also highly competitive, with choking jungles, advanced super-predators, and poisonous flora being the norm. On top of that, the native sentient race, the Requiens, have only recently begun to tolerate the offworld intruders. As it is, the Requiens have allowed the Gens to build cities only along the coastline. The truce, less than ten years old, is an uneasy one at best. But there is hope that as time passes, greater understanding between the Gens and the Requiens will bring a lasting peace.

The Star and Planet

Requiem is a world dominated by deep, cold oceans. The system primary is a Class A9 star (hot, white, strong UV emmiter). Thanks to frequent volcanic action and high gravity, the atmosphere does not get stripped away by photolysis and recombinative dissociation. Oxygen content is fairly high, thanks to the strong photosynthesis action of algae and the rich, lush (and lethal) jungles. The air typically smells slightly of sulphur, thanks to the frequent volcanic action, but is otherwise perfectly healthy to breathe.
